The Hole in the Wall

Hole in the Wall

The stretch of 58th St., from State St. to the L tracks near South Parkway, was known as “The Bucket of Blood”. Lined with honky tonks, flophouses, pool halls, and greasy spoon diners, a rougher part of town was not to be found. And the baddest man cruising those blocks, in his Mercury coupe, wearing a silk suit and fedora hat, was the notorious CPD Detective Sylvester “Two Gun Pete” Washington, who, aside from killing twelve men “in the line of duty”, shot his own brother for resisting arrest.
